ABOUT GLASSLIGHT

Glasslight is one of the few studios in the world producing brilliant-cut glass on an architectural scale. Rich Samsel, who founded Glasslight in 1972, has perfected the hand cutting of precise designs into large panels of glass by means of diamond engraving wheels and a powerful suspension system of his own design.
Rich has recruited engravers and glassworkers from the U.S. and Europe to assist in the execution of Glasslight's major architectural commissions. The studio is capable of fabricating most forms of decorative glass, with an emphasis on brilliant-cut glass.

BRILLIANT CUT GLASS

Brilliant cutting produces one of the most elegant and visually dynamic forms of glassworking that can be used to highlight an architectural setting. A prismatic display of highlight and shadow is created as light is transmitted through and reflected by the faceted surfaces of cut glass. Cutting is accomplished through a five step engraving and polishing process that produces a finished design of superior precision and brilliance. Glasslight artisans are able to precisely hand cut designs into panels of glass up to one inch in thickness and 300 pounds in weight.
